BRBA Launches the Business and Education Opportunities Fund

“We are seeking to support students and adults in their continued learning and pursuit of workforce and business opportunities.”

On March 31, 2023, the Bryans Road Business Association (BRBA) announced the launch of its Business and Education Opportunities Fund.

The fund included a new scholarship program aimed at Lackey High School seniors and/or high school seniors who are full-time residents of Bryans Road, Maryland. Application packets were dispersed to the career and guidance counselors at Lackey High School for distribution to interested students. While BRBA promised to award a minimum of two scholarships to deserving students; there were sufficient funds to award scholarships to all four of the students who applied. Students receiving awards are:

Randolph Hart, IV – $3,000

Jace Persing – $2,500

Keana Page – $2,000

Jalen Black – $1,500

A second scholarship program will open in the fall that includes adults seeking a GED or who have a GED and are looking to further their education at a trade school, or other post-secondary institution

All scholarship monies are paid directly to the finance office of the school where students are enrolled. Students must designate how they want the money applied (for example: tuition, books, housing, etc.).

Special thanks to the Stewart Family of McLean Virginia for donating the initial funds for the program. Without their help and love for the Bryans Road Community this program may have taken years to get off the ground. Thanks, also, to the Jolly Dream Foundation/BRSC Community Outreach Center for coordinating and managing the program. Please contact Gloria Jolly at 301-509-6637 to receive complete application instructions on the adult program after June 15, 2023.
